The More Things Change, the More they Stay the Same: 5 Years of Crewners
Monday, October 03, 2016

Last month, Crewners celebrated five years as one of the top-reviewed barber shops in all of California! That means for five years, we’ve been providing a space for men to get top-of-the-line shaves, trims, and haircuts while relaxing in our upscale, vintage barber shop to the sounds of Frank Sinatra and the sights of classic movies with iconic figures from entertainment history.

Now if a business is doing something right, it’s no wonder that it would stay standing strong for over 1,800 days in a row. Now that we’re open 7 days a week, we look forward to another 1,800 days! But, then again, when a business is committed to doing things right, those behind it are bound to change things based on the needs of the customer and the needs of the business. This means growth and expansion, but in an ideal world these things occur without making sacrifices to the original intentions of the organization.

Crewners started out as a small business, aiming to provide great haircuts and styling to the men of San Jose and Silicon Valley. That much hasn’t changed, but without a doubt, we have grown, and we have expanded. First let’s talk about the change:

The Change:

The most obvious thing that’s changed about Crewners can be seen in the numbers. When the business was founded five years ago, we just had one chair in a 120 square-foot space. Despite the minimalist setup and structure, the business thrived and eventually became the number one Yelp-reviewed men’s barber shop in all of California. Booked over a year out with over 6,000 individual appointments, the business had to grow in order to accommodate the demand for what we offered.

So we grew, and we expanded. We expanded our space, went from one chair to three, brought more expert professionals in, and extended our hours. Crewners had become a top destination for men looking to sharpen their look in downtown San Jose, and we wanted to be able to offer that experience to as many people as possible without sacrificing the comfortable and relaxing atmosphere desired by our patrons.

Lastly, we're proud to announce that in 2017, we'll be opening our second location in Main StreetCupertino! That means Crewners is set to expand and grow even more as we reach toward and serve more communities in sunny California! We’re glad that we’ve been able to do all this, and that we’re still able to offer the classic advantages and pleasuresof getting a cut or trim from Crewners and going home with a fresh supply of Baxter of California products.

The Same:

They say that if it isn’t broken, you shouldn’t try and fix it. With that in mind, there are certain aspects of Crewners’ business that have been integral to who we are and what we do. So we haven’t tried to change these facets of the shop, rather we’ve only tried to improve upon them with more space and more options.

One thing we talk about all the time is the marriage and interplay between the classic and the contemporary. Vintage icons and nostalgic influencers can provide so much inspiration, but it’s important that a love of the old be made more vivid by balancing it with a knowledge and respect for emerging trends in fashion and style. Finding this balance as always been part of the Crewners mission, and we’re happy to report that nothing has changed in that regard.

Other than that, we’re still offering great products in-store, the council and guidance of licensed, professional barbers, and a fabulous space for men to come and relax while they get their look fixed up.

If you’d like to experience a luxurious men’s grooming experience in the downtown San Jose area, just book an appointment online and then come see us at San Pedro Square Market. On location you can purchase world famous Baxter of California products, like the top-selling clay pomade for ideal hair styling or alcohol-free after shave balm to heal nicks and cuts. Thanks for five great years to all of our past supporters, and we look forward to many more!
